Course Overview

This course is sponsored by the ASMBS and provides an overview of advanced laparoscopic suturing skills to advance attendees to an expert laparoscopic level. This course will also allow attendees to become familiar with new technology and techniques including robotic suturing. This advanced suturing and skills workshop will provide hands-on training in a variety of suturing techniques including, intra- and extra-corporeal suturing, tissue approximation, knot tying, hand-sewn anastomosis and robotic suturing.

Target Audience

The course is designed for surgeons and support staff involved in the care of patients with obesity.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Demonstrate use of laparoscopic and robotic tools and set-up for success with laparoscopy
  • Employ advanced laparoscopic and robotic suturing techniques including tissue approximation, knot tying, and hand-sewn anastomosis
  • Describe the advantages and disadvantages of robotic, intra- and extra-corporeal suturing
