Obesity and type 2 diabetes are diseases that can substantially decrease life expectancy, diminish quality of life and increase healthcare costs. “Diabesity” was coined to describe obesity-dependent diabetes with almost 85% of people with diabetes being overweight or obese. While behavioral lifestyle modification programs have well-documented effects on reducing the incidence and impact of diabetes and its complications, most programs are offered in a research setting and offer limited meaningful impact. This interactive symposium of leading weight management and diabetes experts will present new research on effective, scalable community-based treatment options for both the prevention and treatment of obesity and diabetes.
