Course Overview and Target Audience

This course will provide foundational and detailed information for the dietitian and other healthcare practitioners involved with bariatric patients. Topics will include: (1) the 2014 update of the ASMBS Nutritional Guidelines; process and recommendations; (2)Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment and its use when working with patients; (3) Discussion of gut hormones and microbes; and (4) Repletion of micronutrients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss the 2014 update of the ASMBS Nutrition Guidelines
  • Utilize Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment when working with patients
  • Discuss gut hormones and microbes
  • Discuss repletion strategies for micronutrient deficiencies in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
